China

China has closed off its borders to almost all foreigners as the virus spread globally. China has reported 30 new Covid-19 cases yesterday – up from 19 cases reported the previous day. The National Health Commission said that 25 of the latest cases involved people who had entered mainland China from abroad compared with 18 such cases a day earlier. link.

China’s total number of confirmed coronavirus cases stands at 81,669, with the death toll at 3,329. link

However, most of the imported cases involve Chinese nationals returning from overseas.

The central government also has pushed local authorities to identify and isolate the asymptomatic patients.

USA

The New York Times confirms that at least 8,400 have now died as a result of Covid-19. This is a death toll in excess of 500 people per day with 3,600 deaths alone being reported in New York State. Link

“This will probably be the toughest week, between this week and next week,” Trump said. “And there will be a lot of death, unfortunately.”

France

Reuters report that due a change of reporting structures the reported deaths in France from Covid-19 has jumped by 61% to 6,507 when figures from nursing homes are included in the country’s tally. France is now the 5th country to have more reported deaths than China. link

Spain

The number of deaths in Spain has fallen for three consecutive days which is encouraging news for a country which has to date experienced more than 12,400 deaths. link

Japan

Japan’s Health Minister has announced that there are now 4,209 deaths in the country with 891 of these being on Tokyo. link

Iran

A spokesperson from Iran’s Health Ministry has confirmed that 3,603 have now died. The country now has 58,226 infected people. link

Australia

Australia currently does not have widespread community transmission of Covid-19. They currently have 5687 infected cases and 34 deaths More than 297,000 tests have been conducted across Australia. link

New Zealand

New Zealand have reported just one death. Only New Zealand residents and citizens (and their children and partners) are permitted to enter New Zealand during this time and must self isolate for 14 days from arrival into the country. link

Italy

Italy now has 15,362 deaths from Covid-19. There have been 4805 new cases reported and 681 new deaths in Italy. There has been a decline in the number of patients in intensive care since the beginning of the pandemic in Italy. link

Sweden

On March 2, 2020 the first death case caused by Covid-19 in Sweden was reported. The number of deaths has since increased to a total of 321 as of April 3, 2020. The number of people who were confirmed infected by the virus in the country had reached a total of 6,078 as of April 3, 2020.

Ireland

There have now been 137 Covid-19 related deaths in Ireland. The median age of deaths in Ireland is 81. link

United Kingdom

As of 5pm on 3 April 2020, of those hospitalised in the UK who tested positive for coronavirus, 4,313 have died. link

Russia

In total, 5,389 cases of COVID-19 were recorded in Russia, and 355 people were cured, excluding three nationals who were evacuated from the cruise Diamond Princess and tested positive for the virus. The number of deaths due to COVID-19 in Russia increased to 45 out of a population of 145,934,462 people. link
